Time....

...more time passed by and thought it's about time to write something again.

...this time it will be on time!

It seems funny at times how routine makes days roll by without even realizing. Then one day you just look back and realise that actually quite some time passed and lots of new things have happened and new experiences acquired ....you’re more mature now! ;-)

This comes together with the unpleasant feeling of the fact that more sand has trickled down from the upper half of our hourglass! Then to make matters worse, you look into the mirror and realise that time is actually leaving its mark....

Then comes the million dollar question.... “Are you afraid of getting old?” If yes...why?...everyone is heading there! Funny how some people dread this question and the fact itself of growing older. To be honest I have mixed feelings about it. As I see it, it’s not that hard growing old if when looking back one has accomplished all his targets....or at least most of them (in a reasonable time...).

And this again makes me think!

One starts getting psychologically old when there are no more dreams to chase. Luckily I still have whole volumes in my “To Do” List... I just hope that I am granted enough time and meet the right persons to fulfil most of them....if not all....in the limit.

Satisfaction in life is basically dreams made into reality. Just dreaming will get you nowhere...so roll up your sleeves and get going!

Time waits for no one....

Think before you act, and take time to decide....but once you decide stick to your decision. Not taking a decision is a decision in itself...That means you decided to remain where you are, to stop chasing dreams....and start getting old!

As my wise Professor once told me....given enough time and money you can achieve everything.... So dear monkey...start typing on that keyboard....Shakespeare needs some inspiration...

Since I don't want to take more of your time as a last note I sincerely wish to thank you for sparing a couple of your precious minutes to read my thoughts...and if you think it was a waste of time...I’m really sorry. Hello all,

After a very long break from this blog I thought it's about time to write something again. Well, summer started here and again the holiday fever kicked in. BBQs and days by the beach will soon be the norm of the day here in Malta again. Cool...I just love BBQs.. J Also looking up in the night sky one will see a shower of wonderful fireworks practically on a daily basis accompanying our traditional Maltese Festa. Just go to Mdina by night and you’ll surely see fire fountains sprouting all over the island. I just love going to the bastions and stare, just me and my inner self, sorting my thoughts and planning my next moves in life!

Though this year was a tough year for most due to the global recession, apart from other problems, I hope that the positive attitude is still there. However hard it gets...it could have been worse!...hard to believe it sometimes but I tend to stick to that philosophy. Being positive makes life much more bearable J

Ah well, on a side note, if you’re into music, especially the hard rock scene, check out www.mementonostri.com. A lot of work has been carried out lately with this band and some material is soon to be released in a promo CD together with a video.

Credit Crunch...

Will not go into the merits of control engineering but everything in the universe tries to reach the most stable position by releasing any extra accumulated energy …

We generally assume that by putting in more effort in what we do we will always improve, get a better salary, become more intelligent and have better quality of life. Whilst it might be true to a certain extent, as I see it, the world is like a pendulum...swinging from one side to another. Sometimes it’s just good as well leaving things to happen by themselves and just monitor and analyze the situation to know when best to take action.

This time the pendulum started swinging back losing some of its energy to eventually reach a stable position…however due to its nature it will overshoot again and acquire some ‘extra’ energy. Eventually the process will reverse. Frictional losses eliminated this is an infinite ongoing process… a struggle for balance between progress, lifestyle and the environment...

Finally some rain...

Last night we got our first thunderstorm after a scorching dry summer…It was wonderful to wake up this morning and enjoy the smell of fresh clean air. The kind of smell one enjoys when going into a forest or in a big park when the weather is a bit chilly; something which Maltese never manage to enjoy as apart from the fact that trees and green are still considerably lacking on our tiny island, our respect for the environment has been lacking for the last thirty years at least. It is only lately people started considering the environment as a way to measure our good standard of living. In Malta there is a general trend to convert every tiny part of soil into a concrete block.

We Maltese have to accept the fact that Malta is practically one big city on a tiny rock in the middle of the Mediterranean. Eurostat statistics show that Malta’s population will keep increasing up till 2025 and then starts falling again. This would mean that apart from other problems which might arise, we need to take care of our environment more seriously. We have to adapt to the fact that we don’t have all the luxury of other big nations. But yet again, politics and money always take a pivoting role. The building industry is one of the strongest industries in Malta which leaves good income to a person who invested wisely in his/her property. Everyone is greedy for a piece of land here! ... Owning land in Malta automatically makes you rich! So it might be hard to convince a person to move out of his house or sell a piece of land so that a large building accommodating more people is erected in the same area unless a fair compensation (which is only fair) is given.

Engineers and Architects managed to achieve incredible feats in designing dwellings which are bigger, safer, more environmentally friendly and more comfortable. I am totally pro high rise buildings. As I see it, if people manage to fit in one big block there will be ample free space to enjoy…but no! the Maltese don’t see it that way. Everyone wants to leave his/her footprint, build their own house, with no garden (to gain that extra useless room). Moreover, the nice houses that were built in the 70s and which had a garden are now being demolished to build a crippled block of apartments, thin and tall with miniscule rooms, no aesthetics at all and at exorbitant prices. And maybe that’s why Maltese people hate high rise buildings…as that’s the impression they get of one such building…an eyesore on a much larger scale! It shouldn’t be so though! A good piece of architecture should be pleasing to the eye and esteemed as a good piece of art.

I just hope that things improve rather soon…Till then…I will enjoy the cool breeze till the summer heat dries everything up again back.
